YouTube is Coming to the Vision Pro: What You Need to Know

Good news for Vision Pro users: YouTube intends to launch a native application for the platform

If you are one of the lucky owners of the Apple Vision Pro, the revolutionary spatial computer that blends digital content with the physical world, you might have been wondering when you will be able to enjoy YouTube on your device. Well, we have some good news for you: YouTube has confirmed that it is working on a native app for the Vision Pro, and it is on their roadmap.

YouTube is one of the most popular platforms for watching videos, especially VR and 360-degree content that can immerse you in different worlds and experiences. However, until now, YouTube did not have an official app for the Vision Pro, and users had to access the website through Safari, which was not optimized for the device.

This changed when a developer named Christian Selig created an unofficial YouTube app called Juno, which allowed Vision Pro users to browse and watch YouTube videos in a 3D interface. Juno was well-received by the Vision Pro community, and it seems that it also caught the attention of YouTube itself.

According to The Verge, YouTube spokesperson Jessica Gibby said that while there are no specific plans to share at this time, “a Vision Pro app is on our roadmap.” This means that YouTube has decided to launch its own native app for the Vision Pro, although it did not reveal when it will be released.

This is great news for Vision Pro users, as they will be able to enjoy YouTube’s vast library of VR and 360-degree content in a more immersive and intuitive way. YouTube is not the only streaming platform that is planning to support the Vision Pro, as Apple TV, Hulu, HBO Max, and Disney+ already have native apps for the device.

However, not all streaming platforms are on board with the Vision Pro yet. Netflix and Spotify have said that they have no plans to launch dedicated apps for the device, and their iPad apps are also not enabled for the Vision Pro. It is unclear if or when they will change their minds and join the spatial computing revolution.

The Vision Pro is Apple’s first spatial computer, and it features a 3D user interface that is controlled by the user’s eyes, hands, and voice. It also has a high-resolution display system that packs 23 million pixels across two displays, and custom Apple silicon that ensures every experience feels like it is taking place in front of the user’s eyes in real time.

The Vision Pro was launched in January 2024, and it costs $3,499. It is available in select countries and regions, and it requires an iPhone 15 or later to set up and use. The Vision Pro offers a new dimension to personal computing, and it enables users to interact with digital content in a way that feels like it is physically present in their space.

If you are interested in learning more about the Vision Pro, you can visit the official website or read our review. If you want to buy one, you can order it online or find an Apple Store near you. And if you already have one, you can look forward to watching YouTube on your device soon.
